Ceiling Soundproofing
Soundproofing your ceiling is just as simple as soundproofing any other part of your home. The key material is the Sound Barrier MLV, Tape, and Sound Seal. These three products are the main products needed. Of course installing, Soundproofing Insulation, Clips and Channels always increase the percentage of sound NOT coming through the ceiling.
For existing ceiling soundproofing, New England Soundproofing uses a clip system that includes installing the Sound Clips to the ceiling, along with a resilient channel. This will decrease the impact noise coming from above. From there, applying the Sound Barrier MLV to the channels will block the noise from coming through the ceiling. Sealing the joints and seams with the Tape and Sound Seal, will make a complete air tight seal. To improve the existing ceiling soundproofing, we always suggest the soundproofing insulation and also Green Glue over one layer of sheetrock.
For New Ceiling treatment, or treatment to a ceiling that has been disassembled, your chances of stopping sound will drastically increase because you can instal thicker Insulation, and apply all soundproofing products right to the ceiling joists. Again, applying Sound Barrier MLV, seal it all with Tape and Sound Seal will be your starting point. Of course, for increased reduction, we suggest Sound Clips and Soundproofing Insulation. Below are pictures of the existing and new ceiling soundproofing.
